Interpreting and Equipment
We work with interpreters across the UK. Our interpreters are numerous, varied and in great demand, so we are sure that we will be able to find a suitable match for your business needs!
With a bit of notice, we are usually able to find a skilled and experienced native interpreter, who is local to your area. This minimises the need for costly and unnecessary travel as well as overnight expenses.
What is interpreting?
Generally, there are two types of interpretation: consecutive and simultaneous.
Consecutive interpretation is when the interpreter waits for the speaker to finish a section of speech. The interpreter then conveys what has been said in the target language. They will often take notes while the speaker is talking.
Simultaneous interpretation is when the interpreter continuously conveys what the speaker is saying. They do this as quickly as they can convert the message into the target language.
At Tongue Tied we can cater for:
Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
Liaison interpreting
One-to-one meetings
Research discussions / focus groups
Interpreting to a conference with 100+ delegates
Long- and short-term bilingual placements
Our interpreters are highly skilled native speakers who hold the National Interpreter Certification or equivalent.
They are specialists in their respective subject areas and are reliable, experienced and professional linguists.
What is the difference between a translator and interpreter?
The role of translators and interpreters differs quite significantly.
Interpreters work with the spoken word while translators work with the written word. Interpreting is often done on the spot whereas translators have more time to produce their work. Interpreters also need to be able to work between both languages, while translators will only translate into their native language.
If you’re unsure whether it’s a translator or interpreter you need, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to help!
